Hello and welcome to Bind!
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist who specialises in Weight Management. I completed my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Oxford and have since worked in five different specialist weight management and bariatric services across the UK and in America. I am currently the Psychology Lead for the largest NHS weight management service in the UK; a Healthy Weight Clinical and Care Professional Lead in South East London; and Chair of the British Psychological Society Obesity and Bariatric Network.
But that’s enough of that.
Bind. was born out of years of me working in weight management services. Without doubt, the most common thing I hear in my clinical practice is, “I know what to do but I just can’t do it!”. I feel the guilt, shame and frustration that clients bring to my door. However, what I see is not a lack of willpower - quite the opposite - but years of diet culture convincing an individual that they simply aren’t trying “hard enough”.
So, instead of pushing harder - trying a more restrictive diet - I encourage my clients to do something differently. We get curious. We explore how these behaviours that cause so much distress in the here-and-now might actually make sense. And, importantly, what we can do to convert this understanding into long-term, sustainable behaviour change.
Ultimately, I started Bind. because I know how difficult it is to manage weight - that weight is a complex interplay of our biology, psychology and social factors. I also know how quickly, and sadly how often, difficulties with weight are reduced to a simple case of “move more, eat less” leaving individuals feeling misunderstood, frustrated and stigmatised.
I wanted to bring together a network of carefully curated professionals, all with NHS experience, who can help to change the conversation around excess weight: to offer compassionate, evidence-based psychological support for those experiencing weight-related challenges.
I truly hope that we are the support you need to move forward - for good - with your health and wellbeing goals.
